This program is only offered to drivers whose learner’s permit or provisional licence has been disqualified.

It is designed for young drivers due to their far higher rates of road crash injuries than any other age group. Research shows that they are also more likely to have caused the crash.

Anyone who receives a notice telling them to attend this program must attend within 6 months or they commit an offence. The maximum penalty for this offence is $125.

Why pick on young drivers?
The graph below shows the number of casualties for each of the age groups listed on the bottom of the graph. We want to help young drivers survive.

Some reasons for this high casualty rate include:

  • The idea that ‘it can’t happen to me’
  • Experimentation and risk-taking, including speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
  • Over-confidence in driving ability coupled with inexperience
  • Peer group pressure
  • Lack of concentration.

What is in the program?
It consists of one 90 minute workshop.

The program gives young drivers more information and involves them in discussions about:

  • Young people and crashes
  • Lifestyle issues involved in young driver crashes eg alcohol and/or drug use, self esteem and peer group pressure
  • Reality and consequences of crashes.

The workshops are run by people who have been disabled by a crash and by people involved in road safety and road accidents.

When and where is it held?
Workshops are held on most Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at various centres in Adelaide and in rural areas.

Public transport is available to most venues.

How do I book in?
You must pay a fee to cover the cost of the workshop before you book in to attend. Details of how and where you can do this are in the notice which informs you to attend.
